Top 5 Random Motorcycle Facts

As motorcycle riders we are too busy on the open road trying to get that last ride in, feeling the wind on our faces, and/or going on group rides than to be stuck looking up random facts about motorcycles and the laws we must abide by. That’s why we decided to put together 5 of the most random facts about motorcycles.





1: Lane Splitting

Even though lane splitting is legal in Europe and Asia…the only state in the U.S where it is legal is California. In 2017 California passed the AB-51 bill allowing bikes to do just that. Even though researchers and motorcycle experts say that lane splitting can actually reduce traffic and improve roadway safety, we are just stuck with the one state for now. We hope here in the U.S. this can increase to the other 49 states.



2: Harley-Davidson

Here’s to Harley-Davidson, who is the U.S. leading motorcycle manufacture in sales. Even with that being said it is the 5th most stolen bike in the U.S. with Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki in the top 3.




3: Beware Of July

Four of the top 10 days with the highest claims for Progressive motorcycle customers fall in the months June, July and August. This doesn’t come as a surprise as most riders ride in the summer which is when most motorcycle accidents occur. Saturdays also tends to be the most dangerous days to ride. And it was claimed that July was the most dangerous month for motorcycle crashes also according to Progressive Claims Data. So be safe 0ut there guys.





4: Riding Alone

It was reported that 60-70% of motorcyclist fatalities occur on rural roads. And not just that, but studies suggest that a large proportion of these fatal accidents happen when a motorcyclist is riding alone at quieter times, like on weekends and at night. So, bring a friend along for the weekend or night rides.





5: Motorcycle Tires

One would think that motorcycle tires are made from natural rubber. But these days almost all tires today are made from synthetic rubber which is a blended of chemical and man-made materials. Let’s be sure to keep an eye on the tire treads and check air pressure weekly as things can change pretty quickly, especially if you are an everyday rider.
