Why Women’s Motorcycle Gear Costs More Than You Think | The Reality Behind Custom Protective Apparel

When we started Chic Riot, we knew one conversation would eventually come up again and again: our prices.

It’s the elephant in the room

We see the reactions sometimes. Someone lands on the site, looks through the gear, sees the price tag, and immediately assumes we’re trying to position ourselves as “luxury” just for the sake of being luxury. Like the higher number is about exclusivity or status. But the truth is much less glamorous than that.

The price is the price because making protective motorcycle gear, especially protective motorcycle gear designed specifically for women is incredibly involved. And when you add made-to-fit customization into that process, every piece becomes even more personal, technical, and time-consuming.

There’s a huge difference between mass-producing thousands of identical garments and building riding gear around a real person’s body.

Every adjustment, hip shape, torso length, inseam and arm position on a motorcycle matters. Where armor sits on the body and stretch placement matters. The way a jacket moves when someone reaches for handlebars matters.

For years, women riders have been expected to compromise. Either wear men’s gear that never fit correctly, or settle for women’s motorcycle apparel that was simply scaled down from a male pattern without actually understanding women’s bodies or the realities of riding.

We never wanted to build gear that way

When someone orders from Chic Riot, there are conversations behind the scenes most people never see. Measurements being reviewed, fit adjustments being discussed, materials being sourced and protective elements being tested against comfort and movement. That work doesn’t happen on an assembly line and honestly, we believe women riders deserve that level of care.

There’s something powerful about wearing motorcycle gear that feels like it was actually made for you instead of something you had to force yourself into. When your gear fits correctly, you ride and move differently, you feel more confident and more protected. More comfortable on longer rides and more like yourself.

We also understand that custom motorcycle gear can feel financially out of reach for some riders right now. We think about that constantly. Probably more than people realize.

Behind the scenes, we are actively working toward manufacturing options that would allow us to offer more standard sizing alongside our customizable pieces. The goal has never been to make women’s riding gear unattainable. The goal has always been to make better gear for women riders, gear that finally feels considered and that takes time.

And while we are proud of the craftsmanship behind what we make, we never want pricing to feel disconnected from reality. We know what it’s like to save up for quality gear. We know what it’s like to want protection, comfort, and style all at once and struggle to find it in the motorcycle industry.

This brand was built from that frustration

So yes, the elephant in the room is our pricing. But behind that price is tailoring, protection, customization, labor, materials, problem-solving, and a genuine belief that women riders deserve more than an afterthought. And we’re still working every day to make that more accessible.

If you’ve ever struggled to find motorcycle gear that truly fits your body, we’d love to hear your story.
